Llama gestation: how the due date is calculated
A llama pregnancy is timed from the day the female (a hembra) is bred. The calculator simply adds the gestation length to that breeding date to estimate when the cria will arrive: due date = breeding date + gestation length in days. The default gestation length is 350 days, the widely cited average for llamas, which works out to about 11.5 months.
Why 350 days
Llamas (Lama glama) carry a single cria per pregnancy and almost never have twins. Reported average gestation clusters around 342 to 350 days depending on the source, with a normal range of roughly 335 to 360 days. This calculator uses 350 days as the default and shows the 335-day and 360-day dates as the earliest- and latest-expected bookends so you can plan a window rather than a single day.

Using the estimate on the farm
Because the true length varies by animal, treat the due date as the center of a three-to-four-week window. Watch the hembra closely from about day 335 onward: signs that birth is near include separating from the herd, restlessness, frequent trips to the dung pile, and a full, tight udder. Have a clean, dry, shaded area and a cria-care kit ready before the earliest-expected date rather than the average date.
