How to use this calculator

Enter your values in the fields above and click Calculate to see your results instantly. All calculations run in your browser — no data is sent to a server and results appear immediately. Click Clear to reset all fields and start over.

Understanding your inputs

Each input field is labeled with the specific value it expects. Hover over the ? hint icons (where present) for additional guidance on what each field means and what units to use. For best results, double-check that all your input values use consistent units before calculating.

Interpreting the results

Results are shown immediately after clicking Calculate. The highlighted result card shows the primary output — the value most people need. Additional cards show supporting calculations that provide context and help you verify the primary result makes sense. If results seem unexpected, re-check your inputs for typos or unit mismatches.

What This Calculator Estimates

DeFi (decentralized finance) protocols let you stake a token or supply liquidity to a pool and earn a yield, usually advertised as an APY (annual percentage yield) percentage. This calculator projects what a given principal amount would grow to if that advertised APY held steady over a chosen number of days, so you can compare a headline percentage to an actual dollar return over the time you actually plan to stay in a position.

It's meant for quickly sizing up a staking or liquidity-pool opportunity — for example, comparing a 90-day projection across two pools advertising different APYs, or checking whether a short-term farm is worth the gas cost of entering and exiting. It assumes the advertised rate holds constant for the entire period, which real DeFi yields rarely do — see the mistakes section below before treating any output as a promised return.

The Formula

Final Value = Principal × (1 + APY ÷ 100) Days ÷ 365. The entered APY is already the effective annual rate (compounding included), so after exactly 365 days the result equals Principal × (1 + APY).

  • Principal — the dollar amount you're staking or supplying, in USD (or your chosen stablecoin value).
  • APY % — the annual rate the protocol advertises, entered as a percentage (e.g., 10 for 10%).
  • Days — how many days you hold the position, used both to set the number of daily compounding periods and to compute the average return per day.

Worked Example

Principal = $10,000, APY = 10%, Days = 365.

  • Growth factor: (1 + 10%)365 ÷ 365 = 1.10
  • Final value: $10,000 × 1.10 = $11,000.00
  • Profit: $11,000.00 − $10,000 = $1,000.00
  • Daily average: $1,000.00 ÷ 365 = $2.74/day

Notice the final value ($11,051.56) is slightly higher than a simple 10%-of-principal return ($11,000) — that's the effect of daily compounding over a full year.

Common Mistakes / How to Interpret the Result

  • Treating APY as guaranteed and fixed. DeFi yields are usually variable and driven by trading volume, token emissions, or protocol incentives — the rate you see today can change tomorrow, so a long-Days projection at today's rate is a best-case scenario, not a forecast.
  • Ignoring impermanent loss on liquidity-pool positions. If your yield comes from providing liquidity to a two-token pool rather than single-asset staking, price divergence between the two tokens can reduce your actual dollar return below what this yield-only projection shows.
  • Forgetting gas and platform fees. Entering and exiting a position, and sometimes claiming rewards, costs gas — for small principal amounts over short periods, fees can eat a meaningful share of the projected profit.
  • Entering an APR as if it were an APY. This calculator treats the number as an effective annual yield (APY), so it does not compound a second time. If a protocol advertises a simple APR, the real one-year return with daily reinvestment is higher than shown (a 10% APR becomes about 10.52% APY).

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between APY and APR in DeFi?
APR (annual percentage rate) is the simple, non-compounded annual rate, while APY (annual percentage yield) reflects the effect of compounding rewards back into the position over a year. Many DeFi platforms display APY assuming rewards are automatically reinvested at the shown frequency — if you manually claim and don't restake, your real return is closer to the simple APR.
Why does the calculator compound daily instead of using the APY directly?
This tool treats the entered number as an effective annual yield (APY), which already includes compounding, and scales it to the chosen number of days as Principal x (1 + APY)^(Days/365). Over exactly 365 days the result is Principal x (1 + APY), with no second round of compounding. If your protocol quotes a simple APR instead, convert it to APY first (APY = (1 + APR/365)^365 - 1).
Does this account for impermanent loss?
No. This calculator only projects the yield/reward portion of a DeFi position. If your yield comes from a liquidity pool with two different tokens, changes in the relative price of those tokens (impermanent loss) can reduce your total return independently of the yield shown here.
Is the projected profit taxable?
In many jurisdictions, staking and liquidity rewards are treated as taxable income when received, and may trigger additional capital gains tax when later sold — rules vary significantly by country. This calculator only estimates gross yield; consult a tax professional for your specific situation.

Practical Guide for DeFi Yield Calculator

DeFi Yield Calculator is most useful when the inputs reflect the situation you are actually planning around, not a best-case estimate. Treat the result as a decision aid: it gives you a structured way to compare assumptions, spot outliers, and decide what to verify next. For Specialized work, the most important review lens is definition consistency, measurement window, data quality, and whether the metric matches the decision being made.

Start with a baseline run using values you can defend. Then change one assumption at a time and watch which output moves the most. If one input dominates the result, spend your verification time there first. If several inputs have similar influence, use a conservative scenario and an optimistic scenario to create a practical range instead of relying on a single exact number.

Before acting on the result, compare the result with the source system or analytics export that produced the inputs. This is especially important when the calculator supports a purchase, project plan, performance target, or operational decision. The calculator can make the math consistent, but the quality of the conclusion still depends on current data, clear units, and assumptions that match your real constraints.

When the output looks surprising, slow down and inspect each input in order. A small change in one high-leverage field can move the final number more than several low-leverage fields combined. For DeFi Yield Calculator, that means you should first confirm the value with the greatest scale, then confirm the value with the greatest uncertainty, then rerun the calculator with conservative and optimistic assumptions. This sequence turns the calculator from a single answer into a practical decision range.

Review Checklist

  • Confirm every input uses the unit and time period requested by the calculator.
  • Run a low, expected, and high scenario so the answer has a useful range.
  • Check whether rounding or a missing decimal place changes the decision.
  • Update the calculation each reporting cycle or whenever tracking, attribution, pricing, or process rules change.
