Star Wars Marathon Calculator

Pick a trilogy or the full saga, set your playback speed and break time between films, and see total watch time, total break time, overall marathon length, and the clock time you'll finish.

Quick Facts

Formula
Watch time = sum of runtimes ÷ speed; marathon length = watch time + breaks
Breaks = (film count − 1) × break length.
Longest film
Episode VIII: The Last Jedi — 152 minutes
Full 9-film saga
About 20 hours 26 minutes of screen time at normal speed

About the Star Wars Marathon Calculator

This calculator adds up the official theatrical runtimes of Star Wars films, applies your playback speed, adds break time between each film, and tells you both how long the marathon will run and the exact clock time you'll finish if you start now.

The formula

Two simple sums drive every result:

  • Total watch time = (sum of each film's runtime) ÷ playback speed
  • Total break time = (number of films − 1) × break length between films
  • Marathon length = total watch time + total break time
  • Finish time = start time + marathon length

The film runtimes used here are the official theatrical lengths: Episode I (136 min), Episode II (142 min), Episode III (140 min), Episode IV (121 min), Episode V (124 min), Episode VI (131 min), Episode VII (138 min), Episode VIII (152 min), Episode IX (142 min), Rogue One (133 min), and Solo (135 min).

How to get the best results

  • Pick the film set that matches your plan — a single trilogy, the full 9-film saga, or all 11 theatrical releases including Rogue One and Solo
  • Set playback speed to 1x for a normal watch, or higher if you plan to speed-watch — speed only shortens screen time, not your breaks
  • Set a realistic break length per gap (bathroom, food, stretching) — even 10-15 minutes between films adds up over a 9-film saga
  • Double-check your start time, especially AM/PM, since a wrong start time shifts the finish time by exactly that amount

Practical context

A marathon's total length is mostly driven by film count and playback speed, not by break length — for the 9-film saga, going from 1x to 1.5x saves roughly 6.8 hours of screen time, far more than trimming a few minutes off each break. Use the finish time to plan meals, sleep, or when to send everyone home.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is total marathon time calculated?
Total watch time equals the sum of the official runtimes of the films in your chosen set, divided by your playback speed. Total break time equals the number of gaps between films (one fewer than the film count) multiplied by your break length. Marathon length is watch time plus break time, and finish time is your start time plus marathon length.
How long is the full 9-film Skywalker Saga?
The nine numbered episodes (I through IX) run about 1,226 minutes back to back at normal speed, which is 20 hours 26 minutes of screen time before any breaks are added.
Which Star Wars film is the longest?
Episode VIII: The Last Jedi has the longest runtime of the nine mainline films at 152 minutes (2 hours 32 minutes).
Does watching faster than 1x really save that much time?
Yes. Watch time scales directly with speed: at 1.5x, the 20-hour-26-minute Skywalker Saga drops to about 13 hours 37 minutes of screen time, though break time between films stays the same.
