KD Calculator (Kill/Death Ratio)

Calculate your Kill/Death (KD) ratio and KDA ratio from total kills, deaths, and assists, plus kills and deaths per match.

Quick Facts

Formula
KD Ratio = Kills ÷ Deaths
KDA Ratio = (Kills + Assists) ÷ Deaths. A KD of 1.0 means one kill per death; 0 deaths is treated as 1 to avoid dividing by zero.

About the KD Calculator (Kill/Death Ratio)

This tool computes two standard gaming performance ratios from your stat line — KD (Kill/Death) ratio and KDA (Kill/Death/Assist) ratio — plus your average kills and deaths per match.

The formulas

  • KD Ratio = Kills ÷ Deaths. A KD of 1.0 means you get exactly one kill for every death. A KD of 2.0 means twice as many kills as deaths.
  • KDA Ratio = (Kills + Assists) ÷ Deaths. This is the same idea as KD but also credits assists — helping a teammate secure a kill — so it rewards team play even when you did not land the finishing blow. It is the standard used in team-based games such as MOBAs.
  • Kills per Match = Kills ÷ Matches Played, and Deaths per Match = Deaths ÷ Matches Played. These normalize your totals so you can compare performance across players who have played a different number of games.

Handling zero deaths

Dividing by zero is mathematically undefined, so if your death count is 0 this calculator follows the convention used by most game trackers and leaderboards: it substitutes 1 for the deaths in the ratio. A flawless run of 12 kills and 0 deaths is reported as a KD of 12.0, not an error or "infinity".

Reading your result

Above a KD of 1.0, you are trading favorably — more kills than deaths. Below 1.0, deaths outnumber kills. KD alone does not capture objectives, assists, or team contribution, which is why KDA and the per-match averages are shown alongside it — together they give a fuller picture than any single number.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is KD ratio calculated?
KD ratio equals total kills divided by total deaths (Kills ÷ Deaths). A KD of 1.0 means you get exactly one kill for every death. A KD above 1.0 means more kills than deaths; below 1.0 means more deaths than kills.
What is the difference between KD and KDA?
KD only counts kills and deaths (Kills ÷ Deaths). KDA also credits assists using (Kills + Assists) ÷ Deaths, so it rewards helping a teammate get a kill even when you did not land the final hit. KDA is common in team-based games like MOBAs where assists matter.
What happens if I have zero deaths?
Dividing by zero is undefined, so this calculator follows the common convention used by most game trackers: when deaths are 0, the ratio is calculated as if deaths were 1, so a perfect record of kills with no deaths shows a KD equal to your kill count.
Is a higher KD ratio always better?
A higher KD generally reflects more efficient combat performance, but it does not capture objectives, assists, or team contribution on its own. KDA and per-match kill and death averages give a fuller picture alongside raw KD.
