What the subscription tracker is for
Recurring charges are easy to forget because each one is small and renews without any action. Streaming, music, cloud storage, software, gym and news subscriptions can quietly add up to a large slice of monthly spending. The tracker builds a running list of what you pay every month so the combined total is visible, along with the yearly and daily equivalents.
Type a service name and its monthly cost, then click Calculate. Each click adds one subscription to the list and clears the fields for the next one. The results cards then show the monthly total, yearly total, number of subscriptions, cost per day, the most expensive item, and how much you would save per year by cancelling it. The list is held in the page only, so refreshing or pressing Clear starts over.
How the numbers are calculated
- Monthly total is the sum of every cost you added.
- Yearly total is the monthly total multiplied by 12.
- Daily cost is the monthly total divided by 30.44, the average number of days in a month.
- Top category is the single most expensive subscription, shown with its monthly cost.
- Potential savings is that top subscription’s cost times 12, which is what cancelling it would save over a year.
All entries are treated as monthly amounts. For an annual plan, divide the price by 12 before entering it, and for a weekly charge multiply by about 4.33. The percentage and conversion fields on the page are separate helpers and are not part of these totals.
Worked example
Enter three subscriptions: Netflix 15.99, Spotify 11.99 and iCloud 2.99, clicking Calculate after each one.
- Monthly total = 15.99 + 11.99 + 2.99 = $30.97.
- Yearly total = 30.97 × 12 = $371.64.
- Daily cost = 30.97 / 30.44 = $1.02.
- Count = 3 subscriptions.
- Top item: Netflix ($15.99/mo); potential savings = 15.99 × 12 = $191.88 per year.
Seen as $1.02 a day, or $371.64 a year, the total invites a useful question: which of these do I actually use every week?
Common mistakes and how to interpret the result
- Entering annual prices as monthly. A $120 yearly plan should be entered as $10.
- Forgetting free trials that will convert. Add them at the price they will renew at.
- Treating potential savings as a recommendation. It only shows the value of cancelling the priciest item, not whether that is the right one.
- Expecting the list to be saved. Copy the totals somewhere before you close the page.
