Day Countdown Calculator

Enter a target date (and optional time) to see the days, weeks, and hours remaining, counted either by calendar days or by business days (Monday–Friday only).

Quick Facts

Core formula
Days = floor(|target − now| ÷ 86,400,000 ms)
The exact millisecond difference is also broken into weeks, remainder days, and total hours.
Business-day mode
Counts only Monday through Friday
Weekends are excluded automatically; public holidays are not.

About the Day Countdown

This calculator finds the exact time span between right now and a target date and time you choose. It takes the millisecond timestamp of the target, subtracts the millisecond timestamp of the current moment, and converts the difference into whole days, weeks, and hours. The same difference can optionally be expressed as business days — weekdays only, Monday through Friday — instead of raw calendar days.

The formula

  • Exact difference: diff = target time − current time, measured in milliseconds, then converted with 1 day = 86,400,000 ms, 1 hour = 3,600,000 ms.
  • Calendar days remaining: the whole number of 24-hour days in that difference, floor(|diff| ÷ 86,400,000). That total is also shown split into whole weeks and a remainder of days.
  • Business days remaining: starting from today's calendar date and stepping forward one day at a time to the target's calendar date, counting only days that fall Monday through Friday. Saturdays and Sundays are skipped; holidays are not, since this tool has no holiday calendar.
  • Total hours: the same millisecond difference expressed purely in hours, useful for spans under a day or for precise scheduling.

Common uses

  • Event countdowns: weddings, launches, trips, holidays
  • Project deadlines and milestone planning
  • Contractual or notice-period windows measured in business days
  • Quick checks on how many weekdays are left before a due date

Precision note

Calendar-day and business-day counts both use whole calendar dates, so results depend on the browser's local time zone. Business-day mode excludes weekends only — it does not know about public holidays, so subtract those manually if they fall in the window. If a calculation has legal or contractual significance, confirm the counting convention (inclusive vs. exclusive of the start or end day) that applies to your situation.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are the days remaining calculated?
The calculator takes the exact millisecond timestamp of your target date and time and subtracts the current timestamp. That difference is divided by 86,400,000 (the number of milliseconds in a day) and rounded down to get whole calendar days. The same difference is also split into weeks plus a remainder of days, and converted to total hours.
What's the difference between calendar days and business days?
Calendar days count every day, including weekends. Business-day mode steps forward one calendar day at a time from today to the target date and counts only Monday through Friday, skipping Saturdays and Sundays. It does not exclude public holidays, since no holiday calendar is built in — subtract those manually if they fall within the countdown window.
What happens if the target date is in the past?
The calculator still runs the same formula on the absolute difference and reports how much time has elapsed since that date, labeling the result as passed rather than remaining. This is useful for checking how long ago an event occurred, not just counting toward a future one.
Does the countdown account for time zones or daylight saving?
The target date and time are interpreted in your browser's local time zone, and "now" is read from your device's clock, so daylight saving shifts are already reflected in your local time. If you're coordinating across time zones, convert the target time to your local zone before entering it.
