About the Day Countdown
This calculator finds the exact time span between right now and a target date and time you choose. It takes the millisecond timestamp of the target, subtracts the millisecond timestamp of the current moment, and converts the difference into whole days, weeks, and hours. The same difference can optionally be expressed as business days — weekdays only, Monday through Friday — instead of raw calendar days.
The formula
- Exact difference: diff = target time − current time, measured in milliseconds, then converted with 1 day = 86,400,000 ms, 1 hour = 3,600,000 ms.
- Calendar days remaining: the whole number of 24-hour days in that difference,
floor(|diff| ÷ 86,400,000). That total is also shown split into whole weeks and a remainder of days. - Business days remaining: starting from today's calendar date and stepping forward one day at a time to the target's calendar date, counting only days that fall Monday through Friday. Saturdays and Sundays are skipped; holidays are not, since this tool has no holiday calendar.
- Total hours: the same millisecond difference expressed purely in hours, useful for spans under a day or for precise scheduling.
Common uses
- Event countdowns: weddings, launches, trips, holidays
- Project deadlines and milestone planning
- Contractual or notice-period windows measured in business days
- Quick checks on how many weekdays are left before a due date
Precision note
Calendar-day and business-day counts both use whole calendar dates, so results depend on the browser's local time zone. Business-day mode excludes weekends only — it does not know about public holidays, so subtract those manually if they fall in the window. If a calculation has legal or contractual significance, confirm the counting convention (inclusive vs. exclusive of the start or end day) that applies to your situation.
