About the 6 Month Calculator
This calculator finds the exact calendar date that falls six months before or after any date you choose, along with how many days that span actually covers. "6 months" is not a fixed number of days — it moves by calendar months, so the exact length depends on which months you cross.
How the 6-month date is calculated
- The calculator adds (or subtracts) 6 to the month number of your start date, carrying into the next year when needed, while keeping the same day of the month.
- If the target month doesn't have that day — for example, adding 6 months to August 31 would land on "February 31," which doesn't exist — the date is clamped to the last valid day of that month (February 28, or 29 in a leap year).
- The total day count between the two dates is then measured directly on the calendar, so it reflects however many 28-, 29-, 30-, and 31-day months fall in between.
Common uses
- Contract, lease, and warranty terms written as "6 months from the effective date"
- Medical follow-ups, prescription refills, and dental check-up reminders
- Probation periods, trial memberships, and visa or work-permit windows
- Pregnancy, baby, or project milestones measured in half-year increments
Precision note
Some contracts and regulations define "6 months" as a fixed number of days (such as 182 or 183) instead of a calendar span. Always check the governing document's exact definition before relying on this calculator for a legal or contractual deadline.
